Hotel interior design<\/em><\/strong><\/a> Awarded by American Society of Interior Designers New York<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Design Excellence Award, and\u00a0New York<\/a> Design Awards \u2013 Silver, Interior Design \u2013 Hospitality.\u00a0Built-in 1926 by the Vanderbilt family, the InterContinental New York<\/a> Barclay Hotel is one of the city\u2019s only remaining and fully operational properties crafted in the Federal style prominent in American\u00a0interior design\u00a0<\/u><\/em><\/strong>from the 1780s to 1840s.<\/p>\n

In crafting a new interior for the property, HOK\u2019s design team looked to the \u00a0hotel\u2019s historic past, infusing birds (the property\u2019s lobby birdcage once housed as many as 200 songbirds), the letter B (found on the building\u2019s exterior cornice) and classic Federalist designs (including stripes, arrows and eagles) as recurring themes.<\/p>\n

The 47-story tower is located in the heart of Bangkok on the prestigious Rajadamri Road. The five-star St. Regis Bangkok features 227 guest rooms including 51 suites in addition to 53 private condominiums.<\/p>\n

From the hotel interior design<\/em><\/strong><\/a> lavish entry lobby on the ground floor, guests use an elevator reserved for the hotel\u2019s use to go check in on the building\u2019s 12th floor. A dramatic, two-story elliptical stair, with an 18-foot glass-and-metal chandelier inspired by the lotus flower, extends the opulent residential motif and creates a link to the 14th-floor banquet and conference spaces.<\/p>\n

A new six-story glass atrium seamlessly connects the two wings of the hotel and features as a focal point a sculptural abstraction influenced by the butterflies that inhabit Hainan Island. Because the sculpture is transparent, guests can appreciate the enormity of the space while passing through.<\/p>\n

The grand lobby, with a backdrop of the surrounding waterways and the sea beyond, is bordered on one side by a flowing water feature and on the other by a dramatic wall of art. Soft tonal colours inspired by the textural essence of the desert landscape are balanced by bursts of blues and greens.<\/p>\n

The Siam Kempinski includes three components: a majestic entry court leading to hotel public spaces, a garden wing ranging from five to eight stories, and a 19-story tower that houses hotel rooms and apartments.<\/p>\n

The hotel interior design<\/strong><\/em><\/a> translates traditional forms and details into a contemporary language. Inspired by Thai residential architecture, the massing of the tower is executed in a timeless contemporary expression, including the use of louvred shutters as shading devices. The scale and rhythm of the window wall, with its repetitive screen openings, reference traditional building methods. Wood and stone details echo historic Thai architectural themes.<\/p>\n

The hotel\u2019s horizontal stance, articulated roof and simple colour palette of pearl white and charcoal grey evoke a modern sense of understated power and movement.<\/p>\n

The hotel interior design<\/strong><\/em><\/a> of the hotel\u2019s signature form optimizes the building\u2019s performance and energy use while connecting the guest experience with Porsche\u2019s high-performance automobiles and the roaring engines of planes overhead. Each room enjoys a view of planes, trains, automobiles or the downtown skyline.<\/p>\n

The suites aesthetic draws inspiration from the brand\u2019s Chinese heritage while celebrating the modern character of Manhattan. Open-air passageways offer common views to the courtyard garden. Decorative perforated metal window screens create a balanced rhythm, mirroring the social harmony and collective strength of the Jiangxi people.<\/p>\n
